Carl and Myrtle Bennett. Dora Lee (my Mom) JoRee, Carla and Rita
Overwhelmed would be a great way to describe how I am feeling. I was so unsure of sharing my story and our adventure. But as I looked at the stats on my blog the next morning….WOW!! I had 187 guests. People from Canada and Ireland and all over the USA. I hit publish and shared it on Facebook. I know nothing about promotion. So thank you for your interest. And thank you for all of the wonderful comments. I have always had the best people in my life!!
We are 2 weeks from leaving and today I got a wonderful blessing. Another cousin, her Dad was my Mom’s brother, sent me the entries from my Grandmother’s diary while they were on the trip. It gave me wonderful insights to who she was. I don’t remember anyone telling me stories about her so I felt like I met her a little today. I use to visit her Mother, my Great Grandmother, once in a while. She was absolutely the sweetest lady. She had a little black dog and lived in an apartment over a garage in Alma, Nebraska. She always had cookies for me. I think she may have talked a little about my Grandmother but I don’t remember specifics.
These new-to-me entries from my Grandmothers diary gave me a lot more information on where they stopped. It will alter our route some. I need to sit down with my atlas and make some additions. I will share more closer to when we leave.
One thing that I found interesting is that they stopped for gas and Dairy Queen in Laramie, Wyoming. That could be on any trip itinerary we have ever taken. She didn’t document prices of gas, but she did mention motel prices. $6 seems to be the norm for 2 double beds and a kitchenette. I will try to remember to document some of our prices. LOL
I have felt little and kinda big miracles my entire life. I feel like this whole trip and all of the information has come to me at the perfect time. I am in a really good place to do this. For the next two weeks we will be making plans and figuring it all out. I will share when things come up, but probably not everyday. Thank you again for all of the positive feedback. This is a personal journey and it took a lot of thought to decide to share it publicly. So your support is greatly appreciated!!
